Paul, Enrollment Advisor:

Hello. Thank you for joining us to get some tips and learn more about the admissions requirements for the University of North Dakota’s online master of accountancy program.

Paul, Enrollment Advisor:

My name is Paul and I am an enrollment advisor for UND. Here is a quick snapshot of the admissions requirements and materials needed to submit your application for our online master of accountancy program, which includes a bachelor’s degree and an overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0. Additionally, you will need to provide official transcripts, a statement of goals, three references, and a $35 non-refundable application fee or an application fee waiver, which you can get from your enrollment advisor.

Paul, Enrollment Advisor:

International students must meet the school of graduate studies English language proficiency requirements. Now let’s take a better look at each requirement. Starting with degree requirements, our online master’s program is open to students with a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. There is no requirement around the specific field of study other than this program is not for those who already have a degree or professional background in accounting. Some common academic backgrounds we see are non-accounting business majors like finance, marketing, management and information systems. However, we also regularly see students come from backgrounds like engineering, public administration, advertising, real estate, nursing and agriculture, to name a few.

Paul, Enrollment Advisor:

Because our program is designed for career changes and those who don’t have a background in accountant, the coursework is laid out to help you build your foundation in accountancy principles and prepare you for success in the industry, all in less than two years. For students who are interested in becoming a CPA, our 30 credit online program paired with your bachelor’s degree can prepare you to sit for the exam. However, if you have a background outside of business, your state may make you meet additional requirements like taking a couple of extra business or accounting courses to qualify for licensure. We recommend all students check with their state’s licensing board to confirm what is required.

Paul, Enrollment Advisor:

Our GPA requirement is straightforward. We require that applicants have an undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0, based on a 4.0 scale. To confirm we require that you submit your official transcripts electronically or via mail. If you have any questions on how to do that, your enrollment advisor is happy to help.

Paul, Enrollment Advisor:

Now let’s talk through the statement of goals, which is required by the school of graduate studies. This should be between two and three pages and describe your motivation for pursuing a master of accountancy degree, including your career goals and why you chose UND’s program specifically. Be sure to write clearly and proofread before you submit to ensure you are using proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation. We also require three references. These should be academic or professional references and come from someone like a current or former professor, academic advisor or supervisor. Please do not include friends, family, or other personal contacts in your list of references. It’s also important to note that we do not require actual letters to be submitted. However, feel free to include them if you would like to. Rather, your references are sent a survey of sorts where they rank you on a variety of factors related to your academic and professional abilities.

Paul, Enrollment Advisor:

This next one only applies to international applicants. UND requires international applicants to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores or complete the ELS language centers intensive level 112. This requirement is waived for those in certain countries who have received their bachelor’s degree or higher from a recognized institution where English is the primary language of instruction.

Paul, Enrollment Advisor:
